Mike Townsend

Mike Townsend is CEO with Earthshine Group, a consultancy and training company, focused on accelerating circular economy and sustainability transformations – maximising impact and commercial advantage. Earthshine Group has offices in Dublin and Copenhagen, and is opening in Birmingham this year. Mike brings experience from many sectors over the last 40 years, including a major focus on building, construction, engineering – across many countries – and a fusion of skills from civil engineering, procurement and supply chain, and from integrating sustainability for impact and commercial advantage. Mike has worked with a wide range of businesses in UK, Europe and North America, including: Aviva plc, BAA, Birmingham Business School, British Airways, Barclays Bank, Government of Ontario, Copenhagen Business School, DIS-Copenhagen, eBay, Environment Agency, EY, Glanua, IKEA, Life Technologies, LoyaltyOne, Lund University, Mace Group, McNicholas plc, Myrtha Pools, Norsk Ombruk, Northeastern University, Severn-Trent Water, Thames Water, and many others. Mike is author of The Quiet Revolution (Routledge, forthcoming), lead author on Don’t Waste Your Time on Net-Zero (forthcoming), editor of Reframing the Game (2015), lead author of A Journey in Search of Capitalism 2.0 (2013) and co-author on Strategic Procurement in Construction (1998). He is also a regular contributor for Edie.net , Sustainable Brands, Huffington Post, The Guardian, Medium, and others. Mike holds an MBA from the University of Birmingham Business School (UK), a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering Management from the University of Wolverhampton (UK). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (UK), and Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (UK). Mike also enjoys family life, hiking, swimming, reading, music, playing rock drums, practicing mindfulness, and he's a lifelong supporter of Birmingham City FC.
