Marc Desmulliez

Director of Medical Device Manufacturing Centre Professor Duncan Hand is an expert on laser-based manufacturing processes and has extensive leadership and management experience including Deputy Principal and Executive Dean roles. As the Director of MDMC, he is responsible for leadership and strategic direction of MDMC across its 5 university partners. He also leads research activity in applications of high-power lasers in manufacturing, with a strong track record of EPSRC, Innovate UK and EU research funding, partnering with a wide range of companies from MedTech to aerospace. He is one of the Project Leads of the EPSRC-funded U-CARE grant that is investigating the use of deep ultraviolet light for the ultra-precise resection of tissue, for example in brain cancer; and a Project Lead in the EPSRC MedTex Hub that is developing transformative new technologies for experimental medicine, with the specific aim of accelerating the development of new therapies for inflammation and infection in the lung.
